Taylor submits winning entry

A Brantley High School student has been recognized by the Alabama Farm-City committee.

Miley Taylor was recently notified her video was selected as a winner in the Sweet Grown Alabama contest. Taylor is a Brantley High School sophomore and is the daughter of Dusty and Peyton Taylor of Brantley.

As part of a final exam, the teacher gave Taylor’s class an option of making a video or writing an essay. Taylor decided on the video, wanting to showcase her love of agriculture and provide a personal touch to her work.

Taylor submitted her video in Sept. and didn’t give it another thought.

“I really thought I wouldn’t hear back from them since there were hundreds of other entries,” Taylor confessed.

Six months later, on March 8, Taylor returned from supporting the Bulldogs baseball team and her dad discovered the letter from the Farm-City Committee in the mail. Taylor quickly read the letter and squealed, then promptly teared up. Taylor’s parents were equally excited for her.

Taylor immediately phoned Mimi (Rhonda Miley), who rushed over and wrapped Taylor in a hug and told her how proud she was.

“I couldn’t be anymore blessed to have such amazing parents and Mimi who are always so supportive and excited for me no matter what,” said Taylor.

Taylor’s family have plenty to be proud of. Taylor is currently serving as the President of the Brantley FFA Chapter, Alabama FFA South District Reporter, member of FBLA, DECA, Student Council, Key Club, and National Technical Honor Society.

Alabama Farm-City, sponsors of the competition, have been working to develop a better understanding between rural farmers and urban workers since 1955. Farm-City volunteers plan year-round activities beginning with National Ag Day each spring and wrap up with Farm-City Week in the fall. Programs are designed around education, outreach, and promotion. Farm-City offers contests for elementary and high school students every year.

Taylor will attend a banquet hosted by Farm-City in Birmingham on April 8 to celebrate her achievement.
