Greenville couple celebrates 74 years
Greenville residents featured on WSFA 12 News in 2020 as they marked their 73rd wedding anniversary have made headlines again.
Shirley and Emma Jean Roberson, who married on December 14, 1947, celebrated 74 years together. Shirley also marked his 94th birthday a few days later.
The lifelong Greenville residents have lived in the same house Emma’s mother gifted to them as a wedding present all those years ago.
They had quite illustrious careers before settling into retirement.
Shirley was a lay minister around Butler County for nearly 25 years.
Emma spent 40 years at a now-closed drug store once located on Greenville’s Commerce Street.
After his time as a lay minister ended, Shirley and Emma settled into the congregation at First United Methodist Church, where they continue to be faithful members.
The church conducted a pandemic-inspired church ride-by parade to celebrate Emma’s 90th birthday to show their love and appreciation.
The couple had a quiet evening together to celebrate their anniversary as they had done the year prior.
