Though last week’s effort was enough to slip by Glenwood 22-20, Fort Dale coach Speed Sampley said defeating Lee-Scott would take a stronger showing.

“They have a very good, technical coach,” Sampley said of Warriors head coach Robert Maddox. “They are going to know what they are doing, and to beat them, you are going to have to be good at what you do.”

As for last week’s performance, Sampley saw plenty of room for improvement.

For one, the Eagles’ offense only completed 7-of-18 passes.

“The receivers are the people that really need to step up so they can make it so we can throw the football,” Sampley said. “Our passing game isn’t near what it needs to be.”

Field position, too, is something the Eagles are working on improving.

“On special teams, we didn’t do a good job of stopping the other team from returning the ball to almost mid-field,” Sampley said. “Even if they don’t get a first down and they punt it, that gives us a long field.”

Defensively, Sampley said his players are going to have to do a better job of getting their offensive counterparts on the ground. Also, with Lee-Scott running a triple-option style offense, Sampley said his defense is going to have to be on top of their game. The Warriors have a bruiser up the middle in fullback Max White. Quarterback MarQuen Mitchell is a speedster.

“It’s going to be assignment football,” Speed said. “We have to be covering who we are supposed to be at all times, which requires a lot of repetition and a lot of work to get right.”

The game will be in Auburn at Lee-Scott Academy starting at 7 p.m.
