The Crenshaw Christian Cougars got off to a slow start against Sparta but recovered to win 37-0 in Evergreen.
At the end of the first quarter, the game was still at 0-0, but the Cougars put three touchdowns on the board in the second quarter.
Pete King found Austin Brown for a six-yard touchdown pass, and King again found the endzone on CCA’s next drive, this time on an 11-yard run.
Sparta took the ensuing kickoff and began to move down the field, but Michael D’Arville intercepted the ball at the 36-yard line and took it in for another touchdown.
The third quarter saw Kyle Furr make his mark on the game as he scored on touchdown runs of five and eight yards.
In the fourth quarter, Shaun Lewis put the final touches on the win with a four-yard touchdown run.
King finished the game 6-9 for 69 yards and a touchdown through the air and D’Arville was his primary receiver with three catches for 38 yards.
Furr had 11 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cougar defense also played a key role, with Nic Henderson, Will Moses and Rann Smyth each recording seven tackles.
Henderson, who is only an eighth grader, also caused a fumble, as did Moses.
Smyth, D’Arville and Austin Stephens each recovered fumbles in the win.
