Ruth Hickman Newton, 101, a resident of Greenville, died Saturday, February 7, 2009. Funeral services were held Monday February 9, 2009 at 2 p.m. from Central Baptist Church with Rev. William Leverette & Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include daughters Alice C. Petty, Montgomery, Mary Scott”Scottie” (Wayne) Roper, Greenville, Sarah N. (Hollis) Lewis, Stockton; Son, Robert E. “Bob” (Janelle) Newton, Greenville;
Sister, Mary H. Fitzgerald, Hoover; six grandsons, five great-grandsons & one great granddaughter. Mrs. Newton did lie in state 1 hour prior to services. Visitation will be held at Harrison Funeral Home in Greenville on Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Central Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2190 Old Central Road, Greenville, AL 36037.
