The annual Crenshaw County Rodeo is set for June 22-23, and a number of events are on tap for the 25th year of the rodeo.
This marks the second year the Crenshaw County Volunteer Fire Association has hosted the rodeo, and one of the returning events is a street dance.
“This will be the first time in over 10 years there’s been a street dance,” said Stae Sanders. “It was part of the rodeo forever, and we brought it back for the 25th anniversary.”
The dance will kick off the rodeo at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21 on the Courthouse steps.
In addition to live music from the band “County Line,” Dr. Sam with Bama Country 98.9 will be on hand for a remote broadcast.
The rodeo itself will start on Friday, June 22 and continue on Saturday at the Tom Harbin Ag Center on Airport Road in Luverne.
Bo Campbell Rodeo Productions has partnered with the CCVFA, and events each night will include team roping, bareback riding, calf roping, bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, break away roping and saddle bronc riding.
Though the rodeo doesn’t begin until 7:30 p.m., there will be mutton bustin’ on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.
“We’ll have different kinds of food, including barbeque sandwiches, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, roasted corn and other vendors, and also lots of activities for kids,” said Jessica Tomlin-Seabrook.
Seabrook also said that every admission ticket will also go into the pot for a trip to Biloxi.
“Each night, we’re giving away a trip to Biloxi, with hotel, for two people, but you have to be present to win,” she said.
The CCVFA is also raffling off a Beef Master bull or $1,000 cash.
Ticket prices are $8 for an adult and $4 for kids in advance, but $10 and $6, respectively, at the gate.
Tickets and t-shirts are available at First Citizens Bank, B&B Drugs, the Co-op, the EMA office or any fire department.
“We were extremely pleased with last year’s turnout despite the rain, and we’re looking forward to this year,” Seabrook said.
