MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Police Department has taken the lead on the case of two children originally reported to be missing from Lowndes County.

“At this time, there is no evidence that the missing persons ever left the City of Montgomery, therefore, MPD assumes jurisdiction,” Sgt. Steve Jarrett, with the Alabama Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday.

Monday, the department issued a missing children alert for Jordan and Taylor Dejerinett, 9-year-old twins, and listed them as “endangered” and as last seen in Hope Hull on Sunday.

The department also reported it was assisting the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in locating the children and to contact the sheriff’s office with any information.

Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams Tuesday said the case was turned over the Montgomery Police Department and that his department was no longer investigating the case.

The state alert now reports the children were last seen in Montgomery on Sunday in the company of Jack Mac Girdner.

Jordan was wearing a black shirt and badge shorts, and Taylor was wearing a blue and white jump suit. The children were in the company of Girdner and his white 1988 Mercedes 560 SEL is also missing.

“If anyone knows anything regarding the whereabouts of these children and Mr. Girdner, please contact the Montgomery Police Department at 625-2831 or the Secret Witness Line at 262-4000,” the alert states.

Girdner, 73, is listed as a 5-foot-7, white male with white hair and blue eyes, weighing 160 pounds. The children are both listed as black, with black hair and brown eyes. Jordan is listed as 4-foot-1 and 70 pounds. Taylor is listed as 4-foot-2 and 50 pounds.

“They are still missing. They are from Montgomery. They were last seen with the same male as reported, Jack Girdner. All three are being listed as missing persons. MPD is working all leads,” Regina Duckett, of the Montgomery Police Department, said.
