The McKenzie Tigers picked up another region win last night with a 50-8 pounding of Kinston.

“It was a good night all around,” said head coach Miles Brown.

Even though the Bulldogs held McKenzie to only 38 offensive plays, the Tigers still lit up the scoreboard.

Melvin Owens scored first with a two-yard sweep, followed by a two-point conversion from Emmanuel Johnson to make it 8-0 early.

From there, sophomore Sir Wallace Presley, who saw some snaps at quarterback due to the injury to Calvin Henderson, took over.

Presley connected with Johnson for a 52-yard touchdown pass, then added touchdown runs of 19 and five yards.

Johnson picked off a pass with 1:40 to go before halftime and raced 93 yards to push the score to 36-0.

Johnson also saw some playing time at quarterback and hit Ethan Faust for a 56-yard touchdown, and Melvin Owens added the two-point conversion.

Armond Ball put the final touchdown of the night on the board with a five-yard run to make the final margin 50-8.

Defensively, both Brandon Sellers and Ethan Davis had 16 tackles, and Bradley Bush was close behind with 15.

Jody Halford had seven tackles and a fumble recovery, while Johnson also had seven tackles and an interception.

“This was a good region win, and it puts us in the driver’s seat to host a game in the first round of the playoffs,” Brown said.
