Greenville Police investigators have named Demetrius Carrine Carter, a 24-year-old male of Greenville, as a suspect in the March 29 slaying of a man on South Park Street in Greenville.

Reports indicate that the body of Frederick Dewayne Thompson, a 24-year-old male, was discovered at 602 South Park Street after police answered a 911 call at that location.

Thompson had been shot once with a small caliber weapon and was pronounced dead on the scene by Butler County Coroner Wayne Garlock. The body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery where an autopsy will be performed. .

GPD Chief Lonzo Ingram said after arriving on the scene, investigators were told by a citizen that they had seen Carter walking down the street earlier with blood all over him.

Ingram said that when officers approached Carter for questioning, he fled on foot and was able to elude them. Ingram said during his flight, Carter dropped several items which led to his being named as a suspect.

A warrants also was issued later in the week for Carter's arrest on charges of possession of marijuana, first degree.

Carter was still at large at press time, and is being sought by GPD in connection with this case.

Ingram said the case is still under investigation and anyone with information pertaining to this case should contact GPD.
