Even through gusty winds and sheets of rain, the Flip Flop Ball and The Phoenix Salon Fashion Show were not a total wash out.

While storms rolled through Greenville all day Saturday, Flip Floppers and runway walkers were able to continue to raise money for Safe Harbor.

Safe Harbor and The Phoenix Salon are still calculating the money raised from both of the events.

The afternoon started with the Phoenix Salon Fashion Show where models displayed clothing from Meli Melo.

“I thought the fashion show was awesome,” Director of Safe Harbor Kathy Smyth said. “I thought that Meli Melo had some really great contemporary fashions.”

The Phoenix Salon owner Kristi Bruton said despite the rain, the fashion show was definitely a success.

“It was a fun day,” Bruton said. “We are lucky that the weather was good for the few moments of the fashion show. It rained before and after.”

Because the fashion show was such a success, Bruton said she plans to set up a fashion show for Safe Harbor in the fall as well. Following the fashion show, the 2nd annual Flip Flop Ball, which was originally intended for an outdoor setting, took place at the American Legion building.

“I think it went well considering the bad weather for the night,” Smyth said. “Those that did attend had a really great time, and the band was awesome.”

With two fundraisers in one day, Smyth said it was exhausting but it was great to get those two fundraising opportunities in one day.

“It’s at a time where the funding is needed,” Smyth said. “It was worth the extra effort to have two in one day. It was a good partnership.”
