Lester O’Neal Spears

Lester O’Neal Spears, 90, a lifelong resident of Crenshaw County, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Luverne Health and Rehab after a lengthy illness.  Funeral services were held Thursday, May 10, 2012, from Pleasant Home Baptist Church with Rev. Bernie Enzor, Rev. Charles Phillips and Rev. Dale Norris officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery with Turner Funeral Home directing.  Mr. Spears was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy.  He was preceded in death by his great-great granddaughter, Emily Grace Noel, his father, William O. Spears, his mother, Carrie Victoria Spears, and six brothers, Terrell, Carlie, C.V., Waverly, Willie Earl, and an unnamed infant.  Mr. Spears is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Lucile Marsh Spears; daughter, Geraldine (Hiram) Brewer; three grandchildren, Tracy Brewer (Randy Smith), Jennifer (James) Jernigan, and Buddy-O (Stephanie) Brewer; five great grandchildren, Kayla (Levi) Cleland, Carrie Victoria Brewer, Kimberly Crawson, Joshua Brewer, and Leslie Crawson; eight great-great grandchildren; and a large extended family.
