Summer is a busy time of many people, and the YMCA in Greenville is no different.

The YMCA is currently holding registration for its summer camp.

The summer program begins on May 29 and will go until school starts back, according to YMCA Executive Director Amanda Phillips.

“We go from 6:30 in the morning until 6 in the evening,” Phillips said. “There will be all kinds of arts and crafts and games and they get to swim every day.”

With the summer camp, every child is given one free session of swimming lessons.

The cost of the camp is $77 per week for members and $97 per week for nonmembers.

“We participate with the City of Greenville Summer Feeding Program so that includes lunch as well,” Phillips said.

The camp is open to children ages 4-12.

“Last year we had about 130,” Phillips said. “We take just as many as we can hold.”

Along with swimming and games throughout the summer, children will have an opportunity to go on fieldtrips to the library and movies. Phillips has also added a trip to the Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery as well as a big trip to Shipwreck Island in Panama City, Fla. The field trips will cost extra.

“It’s a lot of fun first of all and it’s good for the kids to have interaction with other children,” Phillips said. “Every child needs to learn how to swim, and we take field trips and just have lots of fun things going on.”
