Dear Editor:

When our car hit a deer on Interstate 65 at 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, we were scared, frustrated and desperate. We were on our way home from a wonderful vacation in Gulf Shores and a delay just wasn’t in the plan!

I am writing to thank the people of Greenville who were incredibly kind and gracious to my husband and our two children during our three-day stay in your community.

Disappointed to be away from our beloved church on Easter Sunday, there was a lovely lady who offered to provide us transportation to her church. She even offered to take us to Montgomery to get a rental car. We were approached at Hardee’s by a gentleman who asked if we needed help when he heard us talking on our cell phone to family up north.

The manager at the Days Inn was gracious and showed great compassion for our situation. The police helped us get to our car, which was a good distance from our hotel, to gather clothes and necessities when our stay was longer than we expected.

Though we were away from home and our church on Easter Sunday, we were shown how good people really are and what a wonderful experience to have on Easter! While we hope to never repeat the circumstances, we will always remember Greenville fondly. Thank you so much for showing us the real meaning of “Southern hospitality”
