The Greenville Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled to Prattville on Saturday, and competed in a "Power-lifting", weight lifting tournament, with 20 athletes competing for the trophies.
Athletic Director Terry Moore said that for the size of the team, he was very impressed with the teams' results.
"There were over 300 participants in the meet-we brought home four first place, two second place, and three third place trophies," Moore said. "Although Prattville won the overall meet trophy, they also had 75 lifters in the tournament."
Of the eight women and 12 men representing Greenville, four of the women and five of the men placed in the top five of their weight classes.
For the Lady Tigers, Tehira Smith placed first in the 165-lb. class, and Cassandra McMillin placed first in the 121-lb. class, each collecting 10 points.
Candice Davidson came in second in the 81-lb. class and Ashley Jackson was fifth in the 121-lb. class.
For the Tigers, Terry Hawkins was first in the 158-lb. class and Kevin Moorer was first in the 275-lb. class.
Bryant Crum placed second in the 205-lb. class. Andre Stone, Jimmy Oliver and Andrew Tomlin placed third in the 198, 148 and 181-lb. classes, respectively.
Quadrick Dunklin placed fourth in the 148-lb. class. Marcus Mickles and Terrance Powell each place fifth in the 275 and 205-lb. classes, respectively.
Placing sixth in their respective classes were Antonio Mack in the 220, Jacoby Thagard in the 148 and Fred Herbert in the 175-lb. classes.
Coach Jim Tindall led the boy's team, while Coach Jim Pair led the ladies'.
All top-five finishers were awarded trophies, and each lifter received a T-shirt.
"All of the Tigers lifted well, and either placed or broke personal best attempts, and set new maximum lift records," said Coach Moore. "I was very pleased with the efforts of all our athletes, and I believe that we will continue to improve and represent Greenville High School in a very positive and competitive manner."
Moore said that all of the boys competing for Greenville were football players.
"All of the guys were underclassmen; four will be next year's seniors, three will be juniors, and five that will be returning as sophomores," Moore said. "That gives us a really good outlook on the upcoming football season."
