In conjunction with Greenville's 130th

birthday celebration,

The Fine Arts League of Greenville invites the public to see the work of talented local artists during an art show and sale going on now through March 31st.

The artwork is on display in the space adjacent to the Camellia City Florist's new Commerce Street location.

"We have a number of league members exhibiting their work, including sculptor and painter Wendell Andrews of Georgiana, artists Alice Darrt, Mary Croley, Juanita Carter, Nina McGuire, Janis Odom, Annabel Clackle, photographer Ellen Glasscock and art from Wildwoods Art Studio, " says League member and exhibitor Shirley Roberson, Jr.

Roberson says that art in a variety of mediums is on display and for sale during the show, including oils, acrylics, watercolors and pen and ink.

"We have beautiful landscapes, florals, still lifes, animal portraiture, abstract art and more," explains Roberson.

Notecards, prints, bookmarks, crafts and framed and unframed art are all available to the public during the show.

Carmen Lancaster, a native of Venezuela who now makes her home in Butler County, also has her unique hand-crafted pinatas and vividly-colored collages on display at the show.

Lancaster has created a giant birthday cake pinata that she is graciously donating to be used at the 130th birthday party for the city scheduled for April 21.

"We always welcome new members to our group.

Anyone who would like to put their

artwork in our exhibit simply needs to join the League.

Membership is only $15 per year and Friends of the League membership is $25," says Roberson.

Roberson explains monies raised by the Fine Arts League go annually to art instructor Priscilla Davis of Greenville High School to help purchase supplies and materials for her classroom.

"We also want to start an LBW scholarship program and obtain a permanent gallery site," Roberson adds.

Roberson says the League is "extremely grateful" to Camellia City Florist for providing a location for this show and sale free of charge to the organization.

The exhibit is open daily Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing at noon on Saturdays and all day on Wednesdays.

"One of our exhibiting artists will be on hand at all times to assist anyone stopping by to view the artwork.

We encourage the public to stop in and see this fine collection of local art," says Roberson.
