The Greenville-Butler County Public Library will host its Annual Book Sale the weekend of April 13-14.

As is traditional, the library will offer a “Special Preview Sale” on Friday, April 13 at 5 p.m. for those readers who want early pick of the books. Admission is $5.

“We always have a good turnout the first day and we expect this year to be no different,” said Kevin Pearcey, Director. “We’ll also be offering some prize drawings for those who come to the preview sale, an added incentive to come out and join us that day.”

The sale on Saturday, April 14 will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no cost for admission on Saturday, said Pearcey.

Hardback books will cost $1. Paperbacks will be .50 cents.

Additionally, said Pearcey, the library will be rolling out its “Geek the Library” campaign.

But what exactly is “Geek the Library”?

“Geek, in this circumstance, is a verb and is used for anything you’re passionate about,” said Pearcey.

“It encourages the public to talk about what they ‘geek’ – whether it’s engineering, superheroes, video games or art. The campaign shows that everyone is passionate – or ‘geeks’ – something. And the public library supports them all.”

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation made funding for the campaign, which is national, possible. Pearcey said special “Geek the Library” promotional material will be made available to the public, including bumper stickers, bookmarks, bags and postcards.

Also, local author Hense R. Ellis will be at the library on Saturday morning signing copies of his new novel Law School. Ellis, the son of former Greenville High School English teacher Rose Ellis, is donating all net proceeds from his book to the Alabama tornado relief effort and OrphansNoMore II, an orphan assistance charity.
