Council moves forward on airport project

On Monday night, the Greenville City Council moved to the next step in the Mac Crenshaw Memorial Airport project when they authorized Mayor Dexter McLendon to enter into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation to relocate
Airport Road to accommodate the runway expansion.
The Council also authorized street light installations at 104 Flowers St., 707 W. Commerce St., two installations on Mountainview Drive and the addition of street lighting to the city's billing with Alabama Power Company.
In other news, the council accepted the low bid for the storm drainage improvement phase of the Methodist Hill CDBG for housing rehabilitation and drainage improvements. The council authorized Jeff Harrison, project engineer of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, to negotiate the contract to reduce the cost to the approved project budget of $175,000.
The council also:
approved payment to Bama Fence Company, Inc. for $2,160 for framing material and labor and to Southern Engineering Co. for $868.14 for dugout covers, all for the new softball field;
approved payment to Hartley and Hickman for $1,037.54 for the retainer for May and legal fees;
approved $2,041 for payment to Garver, Inc., for the Airport grant application expense.
