For the past several weeks, many local cat owners have been keeping a closer eye out when letting their animals outside of the house, especially in the New Searcy Road area. For almost three weeks several cats were reported dying from dog attacks and several others were reported missing.

Last Saturday, The Advocate ran an editorial on taking responsibility for pets and this week, one resident did. The resident heard complaints that his dog may have been one of the culprits in terrorizing cats in the neighborhood. According to Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram, the resident took responsibility by footing the bill for cats who had to be rushed to the vet, even though it had not been proven that his dog was one of three culprits.

In addition, Ingram stated that the resident felt terrible about what had happened and removed the dog from his property and found it a home in the country. Ingram also said that the resident had no idea that these incidents were occurring and felt terrible about the situation.

The resident is to be commended for taking responsibility for his pet. Maybe if all residents took the same iniative, fewer animals would have to see the inside of the shelter.
