Forest Home expects good news

For more than a year 1,200 postal customers in the Forest Home community, some 15 miles west of Greenville, have been concerned about the possible closing of their post office.
Fred Thompson, a resident in Forest Home that has been spearheading the community's concerns said recently he has positive indications from officials.
"I received a call and a letter this week from Roger Wilson, a public relations specialist with the U.S. Postal Service, in their Birmingham, Ala. office," said Thompson. "He said he and other officials would be coming to Forest Home with good news."
Thompson said Gloria E. Tyson, district manager of Customer Service and Sales, also in the Birmingham office is coming with Wilson, along with Cleveland Minor, manager of Post Office Operations in Mobile, Ala.
A public meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6, starting at 4 p.m.
"If weather permits, we will hold the meeting outside at the square," Thompson said. "Otherwise, we will have it at the Baptist church."
This has all come as a result of a demonstration held last spring in front of the Greenville Post Office when rumors began stirring, which Thompson said were coming from mail route drivers, of a possible closing of the Forest Home Post Office.
Following that a public meeting was held in the community square, with such dignitaries as Ala. Sen. Wendell Mitchell, Rep. Charles Newton, and a representative from U.S. Sen. Jeff Session's office.
"We want to encourage all concerned customers of our Post Office and the Forest Home rural route to attend this important meeting," said Thompson.
Directions from Greenville: Ala. Hwy. 10 west to County Road 54, turn right, then left on County Road 46, then go approximately 12 miles to the Post Office.
