After several days of searching, local authorities recovered the body of Michael Gilmore “Mike” Compton late Monday afternoon on Cameron Chapel Road.

Compton was reported missing Saturday afternoon, and law enforcement from local fire and rescue departments, the state police, Troy University police and the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department began a search.

Over the weekend, sonar equipment from the Covington County Sheriff’s Department was brought in to search a pond on Compton’s property.

Compton’s body was found shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.

Investigator Heath Truman said that an autopsy would be performed, but that there was no suspicion of foul play.
