The Butler County Relay for Life, which was held Friday night, was the largest ever held here, says Butler County Relay for Life Chairperson and American Cancer Society board member Joan Reynolds.
She said that, although figures are not yet final, the event "lacked only a couple of hundred dollars of reaching the $123,000 goal for this year."
Reynolds said the crowd in attendance was huge, with probably at least 2,000 people in attendance. "We've always had good crowds, but I believe this was the largest we've ever seen," she said.
She also said there have been more comments than ever this year and that the event was more fun and entertaining. The womanless beauty pageant consisted of 25 contestants, more than ever before, Reynolds noted. "We have even had requests to divide up and have a 40-and-older category next year," she said.
Reynolds also said the Survivor's Series luncheon was larger this year than it has been, and said more than 100 people attended the luncheon and it was "a really good group."
The chairperson said she feels that the Relay for Life will be held at the same location next year (at the Butler County Fairgrounds) but may possibly be moved to a larger location after next year due to the size of crowds in attendance.
"We are outgrowing our location and we just moved the event there two years ago," Reynolds said.
More than 700 individuals participated on teams this year and Reynolds said that, "overall, the event was a huge success."
