McKenzie School edged in-county rival Greenville High School 8-6 Tuesday night at the Greenville Softball Complex.
“I was happy to get the win but I don’t think (Greenville head coach Donna) Sunnycalb or myself was pleased with the efforts of our teams,” McKenzie School head coach Ezell Powell said. “Both of our teams committed errors that could have cost us the game.”
A.J. Sanford earned the win in the pitchers circle for McKenzie.
Dazia Womack led McKenzie offensive charge. She belted her first career home run when she smacked a three-run shot over the fence in the fourth inning to give McKenzie an 8-2 lead.
“I was happy we found a way to hold our lead and win the game,” Powell said.
McKenzie (4-1) will be back in action Thursday when it hits the road for a showdown with Red Level High School. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Greenville will return to action Friday when it takes part in the T.R. Miller High School tournament in Brewton.
