The Butler County Sheriff's Department is asking people to help them locate a white wrecker seen in the Georgiana area this past weekend that may be connected to the theft of five vehicles from the home of Edward Schultz Sunday morning on Dove Circle.
Sheriff Harris said Mr. Schultz had left for church Sunday morning when an unknown number of suspects stole several cars from his house. The theft was discovered when Schultz returned home and found his vehicle missing.
Harris said that only three of the five vehicles stolen were in a condition to be driven. The suspects reportedly stole Schultz's tilt-bed wrecker and used it to carry off a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette that was not in condition to be driven. The suspects were able to drive away with a 1965 Mustang and a Chevy pickup truck. The fifth vehicle reported stolen could not be driven and had to be carried off by a wrecker, according to Schultz.
Witnesses at the Red Caboose restaurant said they saw the convoy of vehicles pass the restaurant around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
"We've got a couple of leads," said Harris. "But we're real interested in finding this white pickup truck style wrecker seen in the area with out of state plates. So far we have do idea why it was in town."
