County Engineer Dennis McCall updated the county commission recently on several bridge projects that are wrapping up and several new ones that are about to begin.

&uot;We presently have two bridges under construction,&uot; McCall said. &uot;The first one is on County Road 6, which is about a month from completion, and barring rain delays, should be open soon to the public. The other bridge project is on County Road 48, where the bridge has been removed. That project should take about three months to complete.&uot;

McCall said that the Butler County Road Department’s third bridge project is on Patrick Road.

&uot;No construction will begin on that one until the County Road 6 bridge is open to traffic,&uot; he said.

The county engineer also updated the council on other Amendment One projects that are scheduled to begin in May. There will be two more bridges replaced: a bridge on County Road 65 at Four Mile Mill and the bridge on County Road 47 (Mt. Pleasant Church Road), which goes over a tributary of Pigeon Creek.

Other projects on tap for the road department are:

n Resurface County Road 62 from Highway 31 to the Lowndes County line. The estimated cost of the project is $995,000.

n The auction of road department equipment by J.M. Woods. The equipment includes: two Ford dump trucks, four 2002 Mack trucks, a 1988 Caterpiller bull dozer and a 1989 Mack tractor truck.
