Alabama Industrial Development and Training Department (AIDT) Assistant Director Dusty Brown recently met with members of the Butler County Human Resources Association last week to discuss the association’s concerns with

incoming Tier One Hyundai suppliers, such as HwaShin America, taking premium employees away from their companies.

Brown addressed the group’s concerns by explaining AIDT’s procedures for addressing the potential loss of employees from existing companies in areas where the Tier One suppliers will locate.

&uot;What usually happens with these companies, such as Hyundai, and what happened with Mercedes and Honda, is they will expand. That means they are going to double up their output and that creates a ripple effect with their suppliers,&uot; Brown said. &uot;That’s going to mean more jobs for local residents, but it also will mean that area companies may lose some of their best employees to those jobs.&uot;

Brown told the human resource managers that AIDT would be available to assist the companies in recruiting and training additional employees to fill those positions created by the departing employees.

&uot;We have two prospects at AIDT: the companies that do business in Alabama and the citizens of Alabama,&uot; he said. &uot;I want to help the companies, but I also want to help citizens to find the best jobs possible.&uot;

The assistant director outlined the steps AIDT can make to &uot;backfill&uot; open positions at Greenville’s industries.

&uot;We can provide training programs to train individuals to obtain the necessary skills for the positions, do pre-employment recruiting and screening,&uot; Brown said. &uot;We will do what we can to help reduce or avoid the negative impact from HwaShin on your company.
