The South Central Alabama Development Commission Area Agency on Aging will host a Resource Awareness Forum at the Luverne Multipurpose Senior Center on Thursday, Dec. 10, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

The purpose of the forum is to educate seniors, people with disabilities, caregivers, senior advocates, professionals, and the general public on long-term care options and the Senior Resource Center Program administered by the SCADC Area Agency on Aging.

“Many people don’t even know we’re here or all of the services we offer,” Mary Wedgeworth, SCADC AAA representative, said. “A lot of people are in need right now, and they need to contact us for help.”

The agency covers Crenshaw, Butler, Lowndes, Pike, Bullock, and Macon counties.

“We provide assistance to caregivers on an individual basis to help them gain access to services,” Wedgeworth said. “We have found that so many people need the counseling, the support groups, and the training we offer.”

“Just by informing people about the help that is out there for our senior citizens and others in need is a big plus,” she added.

The Area Agency on Aging also gives information and assistance on personal care in the home, adult day care information, and limited homemaker services.

“A home safety audit is also part of the assessment, which proves to be very helpful to people,” Wedgeworth said.
