Mae Elizabeth Jackson Dent

Mae Elizabeth Jackson Dent was born on July 28, 1913 in Greenville, Alabama and passed away on January 13, 2012 after a long illness. Dent was the eighth of 11 children born to John Benjamin Jackson and Hattie Posey Jackson, who both preceded her in death, as did each of her siblings. Dent (known as “Sister Mae” or “Aunt Mae” taught elementary and high school for 42 years in Butler County. She marred Javoil Dent, Sr., who preceded her in death. Survivors include: Javoil (Eva) Dent, Jr. of Pacoima, California; one step daughter, Lula Mae Tate, Mobile, Alabama.; nephews Dr. Edward (Beverly) Jackson of Dover, Delaware, Chester Jackson of Pritchard, Alabama, and Henry Poe, III of Charlotte, N. Carolina; nieces Amanda Jordon of Carson, California, Bettye Jackson of Durham, North Carolina, Alice Mitchiner of Charlotte, North Carolina, Geraldine Bryant of Mobile, Alabama Annette Nichols and Brenda Bryant, both of Mobile, Alabama and Cassandra Shine of Durham, North Carolina, a devoted great-niece Delores (Rudolph) Hale of Pritchard, Alabama, great-niece Carolyn Smith of San Bernardino, California and Matthew Tyrone Smith of Los Angeles, California; a great nephew, Rev. Lenzer Herbert of Deltonia, Florida, seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She also leaves her devoted caretakers Ruby H. Shambray and Elizabeth and Charlie Brown along with special friends James and Irene Crittenden.
