Agents of the Second Judicial Drug Task Force, carrying federal drug indictments performed a traffic stop on a known suspect, and found him with more than a pound of marijuana.
&uot;We received federal drug trafficking indictments on Paul Marsh, a resident of Kolb City Road in Greenville,&uot; said Agent Kenny Parker. &uot;We went to Kolb City Road on Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, to arrest Marsh, and found him traveling on the road in a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. We performed a high-risk felony traffic stop.&uot;
Parker said as is the case with suspects known to commit felony crime violations, they were at a &uot;more heightened&uot; state of alert handling him.
&uot;We observed while making contact with Marsh an odor coming from his vehicle consistent with that of marijuana,&uot; said Agent Kelvin Mitchell, &uot;We arrested him on the federal warrants without incident.
&uot;While performing a mandatory search of the vehicle subsequent to arrest and prior to impound, we discovered approximately 452.5 grams of marijuana (16.17 ounces), contained in two plastic bags in his vehicle,&uot; Parker said. &uot;One gallon-sized Ziploc(r) bag, and another smaller bag, both containing what is considered to be high-quality marijuana.&uot;
In addition to the five federal felony indictments, which means that a federal grand jury found enough evidence contained in five cases to bound Marsh for trial, Marsh was charged with one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, first degree.
Parker said Marsh also had $1,980 in U.S. currency in his possession.
&uot;We confiscated the vehicle and the money, and, as allowed for by both state and federal laws will file paperwork to seize the currency and his truck,&uot; Parker said. &uot;Those laws are in place to allow law enforcement to use the funds of drug offenders to continue to battle the war on illegal drugs.&uot;
Marsh was transported to the Butler County Jail where he was held until being turned over to federal marshals on the pending indictments.
&uot;We could not perform the work we do without the cooperation of responsible, legal-minded citizens that want to assist us in the war on drugs,&uot; Parker said. &uot;We appreciate all assistance given and follow up on all tips from callers. Anyone with any information can call us at our office at 335-3731, or call E-911.&uot;
