The newly formed Greenville Businesses Promoting Businesses Breakfast Club held its first meeting at Cracker Barrel on Tuesday.
The new club, which was formed by Vesta Taylor, is geared toward helping the businesses in Greenville and Butler County keep merchants shopping at home.
&uot;We see a lot of our business going to Montgomery and other places,&uot; said Taylor. &uot;This is a way for all of us to help each other out.&uot;
Taylor said that the concept of the meetings was very simple.
&uot;It is about self promotion,&uot; said Taylor. &uot;This is a chance for us to get together and talk about the things that we do and how we serve the area.&uot;
By having the businesses meet and hold discussions the club hopes to be able to take the measures to improve the rate of shoppers who stay home.
&uot;We see a lot of people who will wait until they go to the beach or somewhere else before they buy a certain item,&uot; said Taylor. &uot;A lot of times we can help them with whatever they need right here.&uot;
Some of the discussion at the meeting was how local businesses can help each other.
&uot;They will talk about everything,&uot; said Taylor. &uot;We will give each other tips on how to improve businesses and discuss some things that we can do as a team.&uot;
Taylor said the Breakfast Club has even bigger plans for the future.
&uot;There are a lot of things that we want to do,&uot; said Taylor. &uot;One of the things is a big event where businesses can bring employees and family members.
&uot;We would like to give them a chance to do a small presentation to let everyone know who they are and what they do.&uot;
As for Tuesday’s meeting, Taylor was pleased with the turnout.
&uot;We were very happy,&uot; said Taylor. &uot;We had a really nice turnout and hope to build off the positive reaction that we had.&uot;
The club plans to meet on the last Tuesday of every month at 7:30 a.m.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 25 at 7:30 at Cambrian Ridge.
Businesses that are already members of the Chamber of Commerce will be notified of any events through the Chamber newsletter.
Taylor said that she would inform the rest.
Those interested in joining should call Taylor at 382-1911.
