The Greenville Police Department has arrested a local business owner for receiving stolen property.
Authorities arrested and charged Jean Payne, 63, of Chip & Ms. Jean’s Gold Buyers, with receiving stolen property, third degree. She was arrested on Jan. 13, and also cited for municipal ordinance violations, according to Lt. Justin Lovvorn.
Lovvorn said the GPD’s criminal investigation division conducted an extensive investigation into reports of stolen items being sold and traded at the business, which is located located at 1012 Fort Dale Road.
“The investigation revealed that certain stolen items were sold at (the business),” Lovvorn said. “I inventoried the business and was able to locate stolen items from burglaries that had occurred within the Greenville city limits.”
The items were taken as evidence and the businesses receipts were also inventoried and found to be insufficient.
“We would like to caution anyone who buys or accepts items from someone off the street to contact the police department and make sure you are not dealing in stolen items or you may be arrested,” Lovvorn said. “Make sure you have a bill of sale and proper identification from the person trying to sell something to you
