Not everybody plays by the rules.

Greenville’s Dixie Debs All-Star team found that out first hand over the weekend.

The Debs faced District 6 tournament host Dothan in a best two-out-of-three series Friday after Troy and Daleville dropped out.

Dothan proved to be too strong for Greenville as they claimed a 14-0 no-hit victory in game one and an 11-0 one-hit win to claim the tournament title in the nightcap.

Dothan’s dominance was very apparent.

&uot;In my opinion it was a little unfair to the girls because the team we played was a travel team,&uot; Head Coach Jerome Harris said. &uot;It wasn’t a team that was picked out of a league, it was a hand-picked team. When the starting pitcher is from Elba and you’re playing Dothan, you know you’re in trouble. They had girls from all around playing for Dothan. We were outgunned. They had too strong of a team.&uot;

Harris, who also serves as Director of Greenville’s Parks and Recreation Department, believes Dixie officials need to restructure their tournaments if they are going to allow travel-like teams to compete.

&uot;I feel like Dixie needs to sit down and revamp their situation,&uot; Harris said. &uot;If they’re going to allow towns to have stacked teams, then they need to have an A and a B division, in my opinion. Greenville is going to do it the right way. We picked players out of our league, that played in Greenville.&uot;

Harris believes Greenville’s girls would have had a better chance if Troy and Daleville had dropped out.

&uot;If four teams would have been in it at least we wouldn’t have had to turn around and play the same team twice,&uot; he said.

Second baseman Tara Gibson singled in the second game for Greenville’s lone hit of the tournament.
