Ms. Hilda Maddox of 61 First Avenue, Luverne has been selected by the Luverne Garden Club to receive the "The Yard of The Month" award for August. Congratulations Ms. Hilda!

Voncile Nichols, joined her daughter Cindy and Ken Simms, William and Anna Evelyn of Birmingham for a week on the beach at Perdido Key Beach, Fla. The Luverne First Baptist Church Night Circle of WMU met Monday night August 2, in the fellowship hall of the church. Jewel Hudson gave a Missionary Focus on The Lost Frontier. Trubie Merle Strickland gave the prayer patterns with prayer focus on Southeast Asia. The Lost Frontier is South East Asia and Oceania. The group enjoyed a brown bag supper. Helen Moulton brought a delightful seasonable fresh peach cobbler for their desert. Other members attending were Julia Davis and Elgie Lee Mason.

LBW is offering courses in Luverne this fall at Luverne High School. Ms. Nancy Petrey will be teaching History of World Religions on Tuesday nights, 7 until 9:30 P.M. beginning August 24th. She will also teach Genesis, the first in a series on the Old Testament, as an Adult Continuing Education course on Thursday nights, 6 until 7:30 P.M. beginning September 9th. SLBC was delighted to have Reggie McAllister as their guest speaker last Sunday night at the 6 P.M. worship service. Reggie was one of SLBC former Youth Ministers. He and his wife Shawna and daughter Kaya live in New Orleans.

Praise Report …. You have heard that old saying, "If that don't or didn't light your fire, then your wood must be wet." That would certainly ring true with the performance by "Becky Welch and The Gospel Sounds" last Saturday night at Cameron Chapel Methodist Church Their singing and music warmed the hearts of all in attendance. A bountiful supper of homecooked food was served at 6 P.M. Some one had brought fried apple pies to fight for, however there were plenty to go around. The ladies of that community really know how to cook. The winner of the beautiful quilt was Shelia Eiland. All donations received will go to the church building fund to enlarge their fellowship hail. Those attending from Luverne were Betty Bray, Eleanor Boswell, Reby Allen and Edna Norsworthy.

The descendants of Hillary Holcomb Hall and Mary Anderson Hall met Sunday, June 27, at the Rutledge Community Center. Representing the Raybon Hall family were Annie Merle Hall, Carolyn and Billy Keller, Louise Williamson, Bobby, Tammy and Justin Williamson, Brandon Boyett, Rhonda, Howard, Carla and Cayla Parker. Representing the Beulah Hall Deavers family were Beulah Deavers, Eddie and Virginia Branum and April Smith. The Hall reunion is held the last Sunday in June each year. Family members enjoyed a covered dish luncheon and fellowship and are looking forward to the 2005 get together of Kin Folk and friends. The Hall family really missed Ernie Pearl Hall (widow of Granville Hall). This was the first Hall family reunion she had missed and her daughter Amy Boyd said it made her mother very sad to miss this year. Ms. Ernie Pearl broke her hip June 22, and is currently at Hillside Terrace, 100 Perry Hill Rd. Montgomery, Ala. 36109. Her phone number is 272-8354. Her plans are to recuperate and return home soon. The family ask to please keep Ms. Ernie Pearl in your prayers. Friends are encouraged to write or call her. She would be happy to hear from you.

Beautiful fresh flowers, donated by Mike and Sally Peacock, brighten the day for several shut-in residents at Meadowcrest Community. The flowers were rearranged in smaller bouquets and delivered to them. A bouquet was arranged and carried to Crenshaw County Hospital to be enjoyed. Also an arrangement was carried to The Cancer Clinic in Montgomery to help brighten the day of the workers and patients at the clinic. The flowers were from the wedding of their daughter Laura Leigh, held at SLBC on Saturday. This is what this writer calls "Spreading Sunshine and Joy". Thanks Mike and Sally for being so thoughtful.
