Luverne Tigers capture first win

Wins aren't always pretty.
Just ask Luverne School's Head Football Coach Mike Dubose. He's seen his share of pretty wins and ugly wins.
Last Friday's win over Marbury was one of those not-so pretty wins.
The Tigers (1-1, 1-0) survived four turnovers, which led to all of Marbury's points and 128 yards in penalties to squeak by the Bulldogs to claim a 28-19 region win.
Following the game, Dubose expressed concerns for his ball club and its inability to "come together" as a team and work together.
Luverne went to work quickly against the Bulldogs. Justin Bayman recovered a fumble on the first play from scrimmage and the Tigers took over deep in Marbury territory. Two plays later, junior quarterback Ryan Brown connected with Pat Parks for a touchdown.
Daniel Brown booted the extra point to give the Tigers an early 7-0 lead.
Luverne added two more touchdowns in the first quarter on sophomore Fred Hawkins' 34-yard punt return for a score and junior running back Jessie Dixon's 34-yard gallop into the end zone following a reception from Ryan Brown.
The home team began cutting into the visitors' lead when Undrea Sails sprinted 47 yards for the Bulldogs' first score of the game. Daniel Brown blocked the extra point attempt, but Marbury had cut into Luverne's lead 21-6.
Sails intercepted Brown's pass five plays into the Tigers' ensuing drive and raced 62 yards for the score. The PAT was good making the score 21-13.
Following yet another Bulldog touchdown, Parks stopped Sails dead in his tracks to deny the potentially game-tying two-point conversion.
Parks recorded his second interception of the game four minutes later, which eventually led to a Tiger touchdown to ensure a win.
Luverne will be back at home tomorrow night as they host cross-county rival Highland Home in a regional contest.
