For the second time in a month, Georgiana faced off against a hurricane. This time, however, it came from Flomaton and had a lot less force as the Panthers sent the 'Canes home with a 50-0 score.
"The defense had its best game of all season," Coach Keith York said. "The offense did real well and I was really happy with our running backs."
Douglas Stackhouse was the usual powerhouse for the Panthers in the first half, racking up four touchdowns, 205 yards on the ground and the only pass reception for 24 yards. He scored first with 9:40 left in the first quarter on a 40-yard run. Three minutes later he ran in again from 49 yards out. His third score came with 7:30 left in the half from 17 yards out. He opened up the second half with his final score of the night on a 44-yard run.
Tyrell Rudolph added the Panther's fourth touchdown during the second quarter with a 17-yard run with 4:51 on the clock. With the added extra point, the half ended with Georgiana up 27-0.
The Flomaton defense seemed to tighten up a bit in the third quarter, especially when York started dipping into his depth chart. The Panthers at one time found themselves backed up on a fourth and 22 from their own 40-yard line. Punting the ball away, Flomaton hit the kicker and the Panthers got a first down from a roughing the kicker penalty. On the next play, the penalty cost them six as Oderia Mobley broke a 45-yard run into the end zone.
The PAT was good to give Georgiana 41 with 5:23 left in the third.
The Panthers got the ball back again after stopping Flomaton and proceeded to march to the 'Cane's 7 yard line. The 'Canes this time kept the young Panther squad out of the end zone and they had to settle for a field goal.
Trading the ball a bit in turnovers, the 'Canes dropped the ball on their own 22 yard line and the Panther's pounced on it. The final score of the night came as Kyle Mount, a junior receiver, stepped over to run the ball in for his first ever touch down. The extra point was wide but the Panthers cheered as the clock expired, up 50-0.
"We're going to continue to work on blocking and tackling," York said. "We've got three area games lined up and we need to win two to have a shot at the playoffs. Next week's game against Red Level is going to be particularly hard."
"Everyone played tonight and I was real pleased at our performance," he said. "We only had two turnovers tonight and that's a long way away from the 16 in our first game."
Pounding out the yardage, the Panthers ran for 373 yards and had one 24-yard pass. They made nine first downs and punted the ball only once, for 45 yards.
Following Stackhouse's 229 offensive yards was Oderia Mobley with 47 yards in two carries. Junior William Langham tacked on 29 yards in four carries. Langham
also had a 25-yard pass reception called back on a penalty.
The Panthers are now even in the area at 2-2 with Red Level, Excel and Washington County still to go.
