Monday officially kicked off "The Greatest Show on Earth" homecoming week for Greenville High School. Preparation for floats and a general sense of excitement took off from Monday morning and has been building ever since.

The week will truly kick off on Wednesday when dresses up days begin. Greenville High School homecoming sponsor Alissa Huggins said everything went smoothly on the first day of homecoming week.

"We started building the floats on Monday and it went well," said Huggins. "They all got off to a really good start and had a good time."

Huggins said the students are very excited and she hoped to get former students excited as well.

"You can see the excitement building in the students," said Huggins. "We would also like to get the alumni involved too. If they would like to help decorate floats or anything else they can just give us a call here at the school."

Huggins said the students, teachers and alumni will work hard throughout the week to make sure this homecoming is special. She said they would continue their hard work all the way until kickoff.

"We will be working hard all week," said Huggins. "We will work hard until 7 p.m. Friday. The football team will take it from there."

Dress up days for homecoming week will be:

N Oct. 20-Clown Day

N Oct. 21-Circus Animal Day

N Oct. 22-Black and Gold Day

The homecoming week schedule will kick off on Oct. 20 at break in the auditorium. All participants need to get to the auditorium as soon as possible. First second and third place winners will be announced each dress up day.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the courthouse. The parade will proceed and turn onto Fort Dale at the Post Office. The parade will end at Tiger Stadium. All participants should be at the courthouse by 5:30 p.m.

Following the parade will be a pep rally and bonfire. The pep rally will begin right after the parade and the bonfire will begin at 7p.m. on the visitors side of the stadium.

On Oct. 22, during sixth and seventh periods, skits will be performed in the auditorium. The homecoming court will also be introduced to the school for the first time. At the conclusion of the skits, all students, staff and visitors will go to the gym of the school for a pep rally. After the pep rally the students will return to their sixth period classes until school dismisses for the day.

Homecoming week will reach its peak on Friday night when game night rolls around. The Tigers will hope to get on the winning track as they face the Russell County Warriors. Before the game, at 6:30, the Greenville High School Homecoming Court will be presented. Maids and escorts should be at the stadium no later then 6:15 p.m.

Huggins said at halftime the school would do something a little different.

"We are going to honor the classes of 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994 and 2004," said Huggins.

"It is something a little different and we thought it would be nice. We will call out the classes and allow them to stand for an applause."

The public is invited and encouraged to attend all homecoming events.
