Ghosts, goblins to roam Saturday

Residents are urged not be alarmed if ghosts and goblins are roaming their street Saturday night.
The Luverne City Council recently approved a motion that all trick or treating would be done on Saturday, Oct. 30 instead of Sunday, Oct. 31
"We just felt like it was the right thing to do it on Saturday," Luverne Mayor Joe Rex Sport said. "Sundays are church days and we thought it would be more appropriate. Other people can do what they want to do."
Trick or treaters are encouraged to seek their treats from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Homeowners are encouraged to turn their porch lights on if they are participating.
As for safety, Sport said Halloween has always run smoothed throughout the city.
"We'll have our police out to patrol because some of our streets are heavy with trick or treaters," Sport said. "It's always run real smooth. The areas off the main streets are the busiest."
During their meeting on Monday night, the council:
– Approved the minutes of the Oct. 11 meeting.
– Agreed to advertise for four weeks the public hearing at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 regarding the partial vacation of Woodford Ave. The advertisement will also be posted at the Crenshaw County Courthouse.
