Holiday Open House

The Crenshaw County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the annual downtown customer appreciation holiday open house from 5 p.m. until

8 p.m. on Dec. 3.

Many Luverne merchants will be participating offering savings and goodies.

Basic Trauma Life Support class

The Continuing Education Program at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College is offering a Basic Trauma Life Support Provider Course from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on

Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 in the EMS classroom on the Andalusia Campus.

Christmas Parade

The Crenshaw County Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas Parade will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4.

The parade will lineup at the old armory building at

10:30 a.m.

Anyone interested in having an entry in the parade contact Sherri Richburg at 335-2253.

All businesses, schools and civic organizations are encouraged to participate.

There is no entry fee to participate, but the Chamber does ask that each entry donate a toy for the toy drive.

Church Bake Sale

Live Oak Methodist Church will hold a bake sale beginning at 8 a.m. on Dec. 4 in front of B&B Drugs in Luverne.

Everyone is invited to shop.

Christmas Ceremony

The Glenwood Flowing Well Christmas ceremony and tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Glenwood Pavilion.

Scripture readings, lighting of the decorations, Christmas music and a visit from Santa Claus will highlight the event.

The Town of Glenwood cordially invites everyone to come and enjoy the event.

December 7

Senior Citizen Day Trip

Get into the holiday spirit and join the fun.

A senior citizen day trip to tour the historic Governor's Mansion and Capitol, both of which will be decorated for the holiday season, is scheduled for Dec. 7. The group will also dine at the Sahara Restaurant.

The highlight of the tour will be meeting Gov. Bob Riley and having a group picture taken with him on the Capitol steps.

Turkey Shoot

The Luverne Fire Department will hold a turkey shoot on beginning at 9 a.m. on Dec. 8

The shoot will take place on Hwy. 331 north across from the Shrine building. All proceeds will benefit the department's rescue truck fund.

Tickets are also available for a $100 bill giveaway. See a fire department member to purchase one. The drawing will be held at noon the day of the turkey shoot. You do not have to be present to win.

Bethlehem Walk

Highland Home Baptist Church is sponsoring their second annual Bethlehem Walk from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Dec. 10-12.

No admission charge.

Everyone is welcome.

Open House

Businesses in Highland Home will hold an open house from 9 a.m. until noon on Dec.11.

Door prizes, refreshments and lots of savings will be available.

December 13

Christmas Concert

Luverne High School will hold a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 in the auditorium.

The concert will feature the school's high school concert band, intermediate band and beginner band.

Everyone is invited to attend.

December 14

Christmas Lights Judging

The Luverne Garden Club will hold it annual Christmas lights judging contest on Dec. 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Club encourages everyone who wants to participate to have their lights on by 5:30 p.m.

Computer Classes

Basic computer classes will be offered at 6 p.m. starting Nov. 9 at the Crenshaw County Board of Education in Luverne.

The course lasts throughout the month of November and will meet twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will be taught by Leanne Taylor.

Taekwondo Classes

Taekwondo classes will be offered by the Crenshaw County Board of Education at 9 a.m. every Saturday beginning Nov. 13. All proceeds will be donated back into the program for additional equipment.

The classes are intended for children and adults and will be taught by second-degree black belt, David Kim, who is General Affairs Manager of the SMART Plant in Luverne.

Poinsettias Sale

The Luverne Rotary Club is beginning to take orders for it's annual poinsettia sell.

The poinsettias are available in red, white and pink and cost $9 each. Plants will be available for pick up Saturday, Dec. 4.

Proceeds from the sell of the plants will benefit the Crenshaw County Department of Human Resources' Operation Santa Clause as well as other charitable causes throughout the county.

Jr. Miss Tickets on sale

Support Crenshaw County's 2005 Junior Miss at Alabama's Junior Miss to be held in Montgomery on Dec. 10-11.

Tickets for Friday night cost $15, Saturday afternoon $15 and Saturday night $25. A weekend pass cost $45.

Food Program Offered

The Aging and Disabled Services, Inc. announces the sponsorship of the Child and Adult Care Food Program in Crenshaw County.

Meals will be made available at no separate charge to enrolled participants at the Crenshaw County Adult Dare Care, located at 4122 Quail Tower Road in Luverne.

Monthly Prayer Breakfast

The Mayors' Prayer Breakfast is held from 7 a.m. until 7:45 a.m. on the first Monday of every month at the John D. Harrison Cultural Center in Luverne.

GED Classes

Reid State will offer the GED exam at 9 a.m. on March 12 (part 1) and at 7 p.m. on March 13 (part 2). An appointment is required.

Call or visit the Reid State GED examiner's office in Building 100 to inquire about the GED test or to complete the test application process. A valid picture ID is required for test application and testing.

Students attending classes and receiving recommendation for testing from the instructor will be allowed to take the GED examination free of charge. The current cost for GED testing is $40 for those not attending the free Adult Education/GED preparation classes.

The re-test for writing is $10 with all other re-test costs being $8 each.

The GED test is free for Adult Education students attending GED prep classes at Reid State who have approval from the GED instructor.

A photo ID with social security number and cash or money order are required for the GED exam.

You must be at least 16 years of age and withdrawn from school with parental approval and proof of withdrawal from the school to take the GED exam.

Kidney Cars Program

If your car is a turkey, Thanksgiving just may be the time to stuff it for good. Save sentiment for your family dinner and donate your used car to the National Kidney Foundation of (affiliate) Kidney Cars Program. The money raised will help support programs in research, patient services, organ donation and public education.

The donation procedure is a lot simpler than cooking a meal for 25 and you might actually get something more valuable than a sink full of dishes when it's over -- a tax deduction.

All you need to do is call 1-800-488-CARS (2277) and the National Kidney Foundation will mail out a packet, complete with a self-addressed envelope in which to mail back the signed title and odometer statement. Once the completed packet is received, the Foundation will contact the donor to arrange for a free pick-up. Vehicles are sold either at auction or for parts, with 67 percent of the proceeds supporting the work of the National Kidney Foundation.
