The Brantley High School baseball team recently participated in the Walt Disney Spring Warm-Up Tournament.
Over 200 baseball teams participate in this annual event from February through April.
The Bulldogs played John Jay High School from New York, Georgetown Day from Washington D.C. and St. John's High School from Texas.
BHS defeated Georgetown Day, 9-8, coming back from a 7-1 deficit to secure the victory. Head coach Ashley Kilcrease said the team's three seniors, Lance Myers, Zack Kilcrease and Devaris Skanes each came up big for Brantley. Myers scored three runs and Skanes belted an inside-the-park homerun. Kilcrease added the go-ahead hit in the sixth inning of play. Winning pitcher for the game was Edgar Walker.
The Bulldogs suffered an 11-1 loss to John Jay High School and played St. John's in a practice game.
"We had a great time," said Kilcrease. "We got a chance to visit all four theme parks in the Orlando area and stayed at the All-Star Sports Resort at Walt Disney World. We are planning to go again in two years."
Kilcrease said he would like to thank everyone who supported the team with monetary gifts and through the team's 'Catfish Supper,' which helped pay for the expenses.
"We also want to thank our fans for their support," he said. "We had 31 total rooms at the hotel and more fans than anyone we played."
Team members participating in the tournament, were: Westley Spivey, Austin Brook, Zack Kilcrease, Jonathan Helms, Kevin Pitts, Scott Abadilla, Wesley Hall, Shane Corley, Terry McClain, Pat Kilcrease, Chase Haws, Lance Myers, Edgar Walker, Devaris Skanes, Lee Anderson, and Jarad Hughes.
