Chip Taylor could be heading back to Turner Field to represent Alabama in the annual Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run competition.
Taylor is awaiting word from the state office in Birmingham to see if his score was the highest in the state among all 9- and 10-year-olds, according to his father Keith Taylor.
Chip Taylor advanced to the sectional competition in Dothan on Saturday although he finished second in the local competition to Patrick Russell. Russell could not attend the sectional, so Taylor represented Greenville in his place.
Taylor finished second in the sectional in the pitching and hitting categories and went on to win the 160-foot sprint.
Taylor represented the state last year after being named the 9- and 10-year-old champion. While at Turner Field in Atlanta, Taylor finished second among all the competitors from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
"We didn't think he would finish in the top four since he didn't get a single point hitting," Keith Taylor said. "Then when we got to the awards ceremony we found out that he finished second. We could only wonder whether he would have won it had he gotten some points hitting."
Chip Taylor attends Fort Dale Academy and presently plays for the Dixie Minor Astros team.
