The Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars wrapped up a 10-0 regular season on Friday night, thanks in part to 538 yards of offense in a 53-24 victory over Coosa Valley.
“We played aggressively,” said head coach Roland Jones. “We did what we had to do in the first half.”
The Cougars jumped out early, leading 17-7 after the first quarter and 39-7 at halftime.
CCA averaged over 10 yards per carry with 41 rushes for 416 yards and six touchdowns.
Gavin McKenzie was the team’s leading rusher with seven carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns, while Gunnar McCollough had 10 carries for 91 yards.
Will Moses did the majority of the scoring for CCA with 10 carries for 73 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
Chris Wooten and Shaun Lewis were nearly equal in yards on the ground with 57 and 56, respectively.
The Cougars also broke 100 yards through the air with McCollough going 6-9 for 122 yards and one touchdowns.
“We threw the ball better than we have all year,” Jones said.
Austin Brown was McCollough’s leading receiver with four catches for 76 yards, but Wooten had one catch for 34 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Lewis had 10 tackles and one assist, Justin Fuller had 10 tackles, Brown had nine tackles and one assist and Collin Holloway had seven tackles.
After the game, Jones was already looking forward to the next matchup.
“10-0 is great, but that season is over,” he said. “We went 10-0 and then lost in the first round of the playoffs last season, so we’ve got to be prepared and get over that hump.”
CCA will play host to Cornerstone next week.
