Since she was just a little girl, Tenise Owens has enjoyed helping other people. “Whether it was my sisters, or friends, I’ve just always gotten a real satisfaction out of helping other people”, said Owens. “It is a feeling like no other.”
In her current position as Trust Officer at Troy Bank & Trust, Owens gets to experience that type of satisfaction often. “Working in the Trust Department is just another way of saying that I help people,” said Owens.
When Lynda Floyd, the former TB&T Senior Trust Officer, retired last month after 44 years with the bank, Owens was named as her successor. “I knew that Lynda’s shoes would be hard to fill – 44 years is a long time to be in the same job,” said Owens. “But Lynda trained me well and I really love what I do!”
Owens, who earned a BS degree in Accounting from Troy University, also graduated from the Southeastern Trust School from Campbell University in North Carolina. She has also attended three years of school in Trust and Financial Services at Cannon Financial Institute. Additionally, Owens is a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor through the Institute of Certified Bankers and is licensed in Insurance and Real Estate in the State of Alabama.
“I really enjoy my job because it does allow me to meet many different people,” said Owens. Whether she is reviewing an estate plan or a customer’s will or helping someone prepare to move into an assisted living facility, Owens knows she is making a difference. “It truly is one of those jobs that you can look at the situation and say ‘I made their life easier’, and I enjoy that,” she said.
In addition to free estate planning and will review, Owens and TB&T are available to help with investment advice and management of assets.
“Because there are so many aspects to setting up a Trust, we have the unique opportunity to get to know our customers very well since we spend so much time with them,” she said. “In fact, we have a tendency to see our customers more as friends, than clients,” Owens said. “And that is the true mark of a wonderful job.”
Owens is a member of Rotary International in Troy, and Alabama Leadership Bankers. She is also the Alabama Bankers Association Trust Operation Chair.
Owens is a resident of Luverne, attends Campground Methodist Church and is married to Paige Owens.
They are the parents of three sons.
“I know that Tenise will be a great Trust Officer,” said Gary Guthrie, president and CEO of Troy Bank & Trust. “She had a great role model in Lynda and her personality is well suited for this position.”
“I am looking forward to getting to know the people of Crenshaw, Coffee and Pike counties and meeting any Trust needs they might have,” said Owens.
