Everything that assistant coach Ed Kimbro said that couldn't happen did to his Greenville All-Star Dixie Majors baseball team.

Greenville committed four errors in a seven-run inning to allow Thomasville to come from behind for a 7-2 win in the first round of the state championship tournament in Thomasville on Monday.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, Thomasville scored all of its runs in the frame thanks to a hit batsman, a walk and four errors by Greenville.

"Errors and 10 strikeouts - you can't win when you do that here," said Greenville coach John McGough. "We haven't played well in the last three games. We were able to win one of those games, but we haven't fared as well with the others."

Greenville now is fighting to stay alive in the tournament by playing an elimination game Tuesday afternoon against Prattville. Results from the game were not available by presstime.

After allowing seven runs in the fourth inning, the wheels just fell off for Greenville.

In fact Greenville didn't reach base after the fourth inning.

Greenville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when David Moore scored on a Josh Booker hit to the Thomasville shortstop, who mishandled the ball.

Greenville then padded its lead by adding another run in the third on the same circumstance.

Brady Newton scored on a hit to the Thomasville shortstop, who once again misplayed the ball, allowing Brandon Burnette to score.

Greenville finished with just four hits on the evening with Moore accounting for two hits and Burnette and Newton coming away with a hit apiece.

Greenville advanced to the championship bracket of the state tournament by finishing 3-1 in pool play over the weekend.

Sunday's game

Greenville 4, AUM 3

Leading 4-1 AUM tried to mount a comeback attempt, but fell just shy.

AUM scored two runs in the seventh inning, but could not get over the hump.

Greenville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third before AUM tied the game in the fifth inning. Then Greenville scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 4-1 lead.

Saturday's games

Greenville 12, Chickasaw 3

Greenville pounded out 11 hits to easily cruise by Chickasaw, which was held to just four hits, early Saturday.

Brad Heartsill and Adam Moore scattered four hits each to lead Greenville.

Greenville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Greenville added three run in the second and four more runs in the third to put the game on ice.

Thomasville 9, Greenville 8

Leading 8-7 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Greenville looked to be heading into the final day of pool play with a perfect record.

Only Thomasville scored two runs, including the game winning in the bottom of the frame to hand Greenville its only loss of the tournament.

Greenville continued to hit the ball well by scattering 11 hits, but errors came back to haunt McGough's all-stars.

"We made a bunch of errors in that game and just gave the game away," he said.

Cory Ausderau, Heartsill and Moore led Greenville with two hits each.

Friday's game

Greenville 6, Prattville 5

David Moore's two-out RBI single in the ninth inning scored his brother Adam to give Greenville a 6-5 extra-inning victory over Prattville to open pool play in the Dixie Majors tournament.

Greenville opened its scoring by plating a run in the second inning on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Booker. He laid down a perfect bunt, which allowed David Moore to score from third.

Heartsill added another run in the second inning before Greenville tacked on two more runs in the fourth.

Booker's single brought Dusty Coker across the plate, and then David Moore scored on a error by the Prattville first baseman.

Greenville retook the lead in the seventh only to have Prattville comeback to send the game into extra innings.
