Kinston High School edged McKenzie School 38-36 in a Class 1A, Region 2 showdown Friday night in Kinston.
“It was a hard fought game,” McKenzie head coach Miles Brown said.
The loss snaps a three-game McKenzie winning streak.
The Tigers (4-2, 2-2 Class 1A, Region 2) trailed by a touchdown heading into the second half and rallied to tie the game at 30-all at the end of regulation.
Kinston (1-6, 1-3 Class 1A, Region 2) scored first and converted its two-point try to take a 38-30 lead.
McKenzie responded with a touchdown of its own, but its two-point conversion attempt failed giving the Bulldogs their first win of the season and just its sixth win against McKenzie all-time.
“We had a chance,” Brown said. “Our seniors did a good job of leading the team.”
McKenzie will host region foe Florala High School Friday night.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
