Paul Whigham Jr. didn't need much to win the 14-year-old division of the annual Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick contest, but he didn't leave much to chance.

Whigham, who was the lone competitor in his age group, had a punt for more than 41 yards, had a pass of 48 yards and had a kick off of more than 34 yards to easily win his division Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

The competition, which was hosted by Greenville Parks and Recreation, had 16 boys participate. The winners of the age divisions now move on to compete in the sectional at 3 p.m. Oct. 23 at Westgate Park in Dothan.

Whigham's younger brother, Caleb, also won the 8- and 9-year-old division with a total score of 95. George Darrington and Whigham were neck and neck through the competition except in passing. Whigham pulled out the win by throwing almost 20 feet farther than his opponent.

Although Chip Taylor didn't throw the ball as far as Chad Waller, his leg strength paid off to come away with the 10- and 11-year-old title. Taylor punted for almost 24 yards, and his kickoff was 23 yards.

Taylor Deshazo finished third in the age group, which had eight competitors.

Javaun Kent punting and throwing ability was enough to hold off a strong push by Brian Powell for the 12- and 13-year-old crown.

Kent finished the day with 211 points, while Powell finished second with 209. Peter Darrington finished third.
