Luverne wins region showdown with Daleville

The Luverne Tigers picked up their first region win of the season with a convincing 33-7 victory over Daleville.
One of the main concerns coming into the game was containing running back Brandon Burks, but head coach Les Sanders said the team managed to keep him in check pretty well.
“He only got loose once, which was their only touchdown,” he said.
The Tigers led 20-7 at halftime and got a strong performance from LaDorian Jackson, who scored three touchdowns on the night.
Quez Redmon also had a rushing TD, while Kentarius Womack connected with Ben Boyd for a three-yard touchdown pass.
Sanders said that the team improved on several issues that had been plaguing them for the past few weeks.
“Over the last three weeks, we moved the ball well and got deep into the other team’s territory, but we didn’t score,” he said. “We also had a lot of turnovers in previous weeks, but only one tonight.”
Even after that turnover in the third quarter, the Tigers were able to make a stand and get the ball back.
“I felt like that was a big point in the game,” Sanders said. “We also didn’t have a lot of penalties.”
The Tigers will face off against county rival Brantley next week.
