A rabies clinic will soon be coming to a convenient location near you. The Butler County Rabies Vaccination Clinic is set to kick off next Monday, June 5 and run through Thursday, June 8 at stops throughout the county.

Butler County has a good track record of vaccinating pets for the life-threatening disease, Dr. Bill Watson of Watson Animal Clinic said.

&uot;In this state, most counties have about 40 percent of their pets being vaccinated. You need about 60 percent to really provide a barrier of vaccinated pets to protect the human population. In Butler County, we average 75 percent, which is a reponse above and beyond what you would expect.&uot;

On Monday, June 5, clinics will be held at 5 p.m. at Central Community Center; 5:30 p.m. at Pigeon Creek Community Center; 6:30 p.m. at Friendship Community Center and 7 p.m. at Industry Community Center.

On Tuesday, June 6, at 8:30 a.m. at Damascus Church; 9:15 .M. at Midway Baptist Church and 10:30 a.m. at John Bell’s house; at 6:15 p.m., Odom’s house, 6:30 p.m., McKenzie Methodist and 6:45, Long Creek.

On Wednesday, June 7, at 12:30 p.m., Georgiana Second Baptist Church; 12:30 p.m. Georgiana Community Center; 1 p.m. Walton Curb Market; 2 p.m., Avant; 2:30 p.m., Brushey Creek; 3 p.m., East Chapman and 4 p.m. Gravel Hill Church.

On Thursday, June 8, at 9 a.m., Waller’s Store; 9:30 a.m., Crenshaw’s; 10 a,m,, Monterey; 10:30 a.m., Forest Home; 5 p.m., Morrow; 5:30 p.m., Starlington; 6:15 p.m., Shackleville and 6:45 p.m., Buckaloo.

Owners are asked to keep animals on a leash or in a kennel.

The charge is $10 an animal, a $2 increase per shot this year.

&uot;The state dictates what we charge for the rabies shots. This is the first increase in nine years, and certainly, gas and other costs have risen in that time,&uot; Watson said.

The veterinarian said the county can be proud of its record of rabies vaccinations.

&uot;I appreciate the good response we have always gotten and hope that continues.&uot;
