Minnie Newton Rogers

COLUMBIA — Minnie Newton Rogers, a resident of Columbia, died early Sunday morning, August 28, 2011, at her home. She was 79.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, August 30, 2011, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Reverend Randall Johnson and Reverend Robert Strickland officiating. Burial followed in the Columbia City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.

A native of Dothan, Mrs. Rogers was reared in Kinsey, daughter of the late Chester Liddell Newton and Mildred Butler Newton. She lived most of her adult lifetime in Greenville, Alabama before moving to Columbia in 1996. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville. She was a member of the Better Homes and Garden Club of Columbia, Friends of Columbia and the Columbia Historical Society.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Walter Green Rogers, Sr., Columbia; three sons, Walter Green Rogers, Jr., Birmingham; Michael Cannon Rogers and wife, Eileen, Columbia; Edwin Newton Rogers and wife, Janice, Wetumpka; a sister, Marjorie Newton, Kinsey; two brothers, Liddell Newton and wife, Julia; and Reverend Wayne Newton and wife, Opthelia, all of Kinsey; six grandchildren, Kathleen Cazenavette and husband, Joey, Olivia Harmon and husband, Jerome, Michael Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Cole Rogers and Matt Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Cazenavette and Emma Gail Harmon.

Serving as active pallbearers were Matthew Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Cole Rogers, Joseph Cazenavette, Jerome Harmon and Michael Rogers.
