Fort Dale suffered a tough loss, 4-7, in their first game against Lowndes on Friday, but they got a chance for vengeance in the second match.

The Eagles second-game performance was enough to grab a win, 15-7.

Coach Josh Beverly said the score of the first game doesn’t paint an accurate picture.

“We had one bad inning, the fifth, where they scored seven runs,” Beverly said. “We started the inning with a lead-off walk, which usually leads to a run being scored.”

Despite scoring one run in the first, inning, FDA stayed silent most of the game. A few mistakes, Beverly said, let the game stay in the opposing team’s favor.

“Lowndes came out and did what they were supposed to do,” Beverly said.

Beverly said his team made some improvements this week, but slipped in other areas.

“We left 16 people on base,” Beverly said. “We’ve had a problem getting people on base, now we are having trouble getting them back in.”

The second game went much better. The Eagles put two runs on the board in the first. Lowndes managed to grab three runs in the bottom of the second and another three in the fourth to tie. The FDA offense, however, got churning in the fifth, scoring another five runs.

“We finally started hitting like we are capable of hitting,” Beverly said.”

Hunter Armstrong was awarded the win.

Jonathan Scott hit 4-for-5, Skylar McKeown went 2-for-4 and Connally Walters went 2-for-4.

“We changed the batting order up, and we think we may have found something that works,” Beverly said.

While Beverly said his team is still making mistakes, early season play has been a good chance to notice the players that are performing well.

“Dustin Till pitched great as relief in both games,” Beverly said. “In non-region games like this, we look for players who can be a big help later on in the season.”

For now, Beverly said he hopes to grab the momentum and go with it.

FDA will play Morgan on March 11 at Selma.
