Greenville police have charged a man with the identity theft of an 86-year-old woman, saying he used her name and social security number to run up over $2,000 in credit card debt.

Lamont Albritton, 34, was arrested on April 1 on charges of identity theft, 1st degree. He was later released on $10,000 bond, according to Lt. Randy Courtney.

Cpl. Brian Mosley, lead investigator in the case, said Albritton claimed the victim was his aunt. However, family members dispute his claims, said Mosley.

&#8220We're not sure how he (Albritton) acquired this lady's information,” said Mosley. &#8220The family said they do know him, but he is not related.”

Mosley said the victim, a nursing home resident since 2001, suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

Mosley said an informant delivered Officer Russell Davis bills and receipts with the victim's name on it. Davis turned the evidence over to investigations.

Mosley said the theft started in January of this year.

Identity theft is a Class C felony in Alabama and carries a prison term of one to 10 years with a conviction.
