Spanish Fort High School Principal Mike Lucci has confirmed he intends to recommend Bryant Vincent as new head football coach and athletic director for the school.

Lucci will make his recommendation to superintendent Dr. Faron Hollinger at the Baldwin County School System's next board meeting on Thursday, June 21, according to a released statement.

Vincent resigned as head football coach/AD at Greenville High School on Sunday.

&#8220It is my intent to recommend to the superintendent, Bryant Vincent, for the position of head football coach and athletic director for Spanish Fort High School. Coach Vincent is a winner in every way. Should he be recommended by the superintendent and affirmed by the board, he will be an asset not only to Spanish Fort High School but to the community and county,” wrote Lucci. &#8220Should this appointment be confirmed, we're looking forward to welcoming Coach Vincent to the Spanish Fort family and we will have a special time that the community can come meet him and offer a hearty welcome.”

Baldwin schools spokesperson Terry Wilhite said Vincent would &#8220have one of the finest communities and counties in the state in which to live and work.”

&#8220Spanish Fort High School opened in the fall of 2005,” said Wilhite. ”This will be the first year that the essentially brand new school has had a senior class. Sports facilities are still under construction with a practice facility in place that will one day be a complete sports facility. A new $20 million middle school is being constructed just down the highway from the high school. Bass Pro is locating in Spanish Fort and is in the process of making a $1 million contribution to the sports facilities in that community.”

Wilhite said the public school system in Baldwin County operates on a $300 million annual budget.

On Tuesday, it was reported by the Press-Register that former Toros' head coach and AD Barry Gibson – the man Vincent is replacing – would be relieved of his job as a recreation consultant with the city of Spanish Fort. The job pays a salary of $15,000 annually.

That position will instead go to Vincent should he be confirmed at Spanish Fort.

Mayor Jo Bonner said the athletic director at Spanish Fort and recreation consultant should be the same person because he would have an &#8220extensive knowledge about the Toros' sports program,” according to the Press-Register.

Gibson was fired in May.
